Curious George Chocolate Banana Pudding Smoothie Bowl

When I was little I loved reading the adventures of Curious George and his friend in the yellow hat, and would wish that I could one day have a friend like George :). I don’t think I’ll be getting a pet monkey anytime soon, so instead I thought I would make a smoothie bowl inspired by those adorable baby bananas that I found at Whole Foods. This Chocolate Banana Pudding bowl has the best texture, and only gets better over time – setting into a consistency similar to a mix between chocolate mousse and pudding. It’s creamy, dreamy, and perfect for either a decadent breakfast, or even dessert.

I turned mine into George by piping coconut yogurt mixed with just a tad of cacao powder on top of the smoothie for his face. Then I added chia seeds for the mouth, coconut yogurt, and then set dark chocolate for his eyes and nose, and covered apple slices with the cacao/yogurt mixture for his ears (the piece of “hair” that’s sticking up  is dark chocolate with the smoothie bowl covering it).  You could also turn this recipe into a chocolate nice cream by blending just the bananas and cacao powder together (with a touch of coconut milk to get everything going).

Smoothie:

2 cartons So Delicious Original Culinary Coconut Milk or 20 oz full fat coconut milk

3 tablespoons cacao powder (add another tablespoon if you are skipping the black cocoa)

6-7 mini frozen bananas (or half that if you are using regular size)

2 teaspoons black cocoa powder*

2 tablespoons unsweetened coconut chips

* for color

Recommended Toppings: (Feel free to top with any of your favorites)

Coconut yogurt

Chia seeds

Dark chocolate

Strawberries

Coconut whipped cream

Cacao nibs

Unsweetened coconut chips

Toasted pecans or walnuts

Directions:

  1. Freeze the bananas the night before making this smoothie. Peel them, and slice before placing them in either a freezer safe bag or container.
  2. Add all of the smoothie ingredients to a high powered blender, and blend until smooth (you don’t want to over blend though as it’ll make the frozen consistency start to melt faster).
  3. Pour into your bowls for serving, and top with your favorite ingredients.
